We can use the second equation to find y
-8 + 2y = -20
Add 8 to both sides
2y = -12
Divide both sides by 2
y = -6
We can plug -6 in for y in the other equation
-8x - 8(-6) = 0
-8 * -6 = 48
-8x + 48 = 0
subtract 48 from both sides
-8x = -48
divide both sides by -8
x = 8
So the answers are x = 8 and y = -6
