Virgil comes to talk to Dante. Beatrice speaks through him to Dante. The visit is important because at the end of the conversation Virgil saves Dante from the big, bad wolf or himself. Dante is very grateful and endeared for what Virgil has done. He feels rejuvenated and able to carry on, now that his spirits are lifted. Dante had been in love with Beatrice which is why this visit renews his vigor.
