is it -4^2 i am so bad at this and i cannot wrap my head around it , can someone show me how to do it,

Yes, it is. Exponent is a notation for the number of times something is multiplied. It is same as multiplication is a notation for the number of times something is added. a+a+a+a+a = 5*a Similarly, a*a*a*a*a = a^5 Hence, -4*-4 = (-4)^2
