How did woodrow wilson (united states) want germany to be treated after the war?

Woodrow Wilson wanted a peace treaty based on justice not violence. The League of Nations wanted Germany to pay severely for their crimes, but Wilson  didn't completely agree with that. Although the American Government wanted to punish Germany, Wilson held on to his peace treaty.
