You have to find a common denominator, in this question it would be 8. Then take the 1/2 and multiply the numerator and denominator by 4 so you get 4/8. You would leave the 1/8 alone. After take the 3/4 and multiply the numerator and denominator by 2 so you’ll get 6/8. Now you can add 4/8+1/8+6/8 which equals 11/8 or 3 1/8
