Teddy Roosevelt's volunteer cavalry unit is most famous for the Battle of San Juan Hill, (1 July 1898), also known as the Battle of San Juan Heights, the most significant U.S. land victory, under the command of Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt resigned his position as Assistant Secretary of the Navy in May 1898 to associate to the spontaneous cavalry.
