A farmer has both pigs and chickens on his farm. there are 78 feet and 27 heads. how many pigs and how many chickens are there?

let p the number of pigs
and  c: number of chickens


   p    + c   =   27   ( there is one head for each  )

4 p + 2c = 78   ( 4 feet for pigs and 2 for chickens)
 


p= 12                 c= 15
