Homoplasy and homology are phylogenetic traits in the study of evolution. Homology refers to having similar traits (common characters) due to common ancestry where as homoplasy refers to similar traits or characters that are not due to common ancestry.
Extensive loss of hair observed in humans and whales is an example of homoplasy because the reason of hair fall is other than common ancestry.
