Greetings!

"Use the distributive property for [tex]-8 (x / 3)[/tex]."

The distribute property is used to simplify an expression/equation. This is done by multiplying the contents of the parenthesis by the number outside of bracket.

[tex]-8 (x / 3)[/tex]
[tex]=(-8*x / -8*3)[/tex]
Simplify.
[tex]=(-8x/-24)[/tex]

Hope this helps.
-Benjamin
