Additionally, the rugged terrain with mountains and valleys made travel challenging. The frequent wars and conflicts in ancient Greece also hindered travel as it was unsafe to journey through different city-states. Moreover, the Greek islands are spread out and difficult to access, which further added to the difficulty of travel in Greece
