If the line is parallel to the given line, it would have the same slope so we would have y=(1/2)x +b so far. Now to find out what b is, we would plug in the given point so the equation would be -17=(1/2)(-6)+b. We can then simplify this, making -14=b. The equation is y=(1/2)x-14
