The first stage of both technological design and scientific investigation would be identifying a problem or need. Both are similar in so many ways when conducting an investigation. More or less each step corresponds to each other. For instance, the first stage both needs to identify something. For scientists, they identify problem while, while for engineers, they identify a need.
