For number 1,

Total Area = Area of Square + 4*Area of Triagle
Total Area = side^2 + 4*(1/2)(base)(height)
Total Area = 4^2 + 4*(1/2)*4*3
Total Area = 16 + 24
Total Area = 40 cm^2


For number 2,

Total Area = 2*Area of Square + 4*Area of Rectangle
Total Area = 2*side^2 + 4*length*widtg
Total Area = 2*5^2 + 4*5*2
Total Area = 50 + 40
Total Area = 90 cm^2
