The square of any number means to self-multiply. This means 5 is multiplied by itself, or 5x5. So, 5 x 5 = 25, and 8 x 8 = 64.
The sum of 25 + 64 = 89.
89 is the sum of the squares 5 and 8.
I hope this helps!
