Newsreels were a standard part of movie entertainment. how did these newsreels “open the world” for their viewers

Newsreels were a form of short documentary films that were prevalent between 1910s to 1960s. They were used to present news stories, and topics of interest. So it was a sort of source for news, current affairs, and are considered as significant historical documents. Some were even used as propaganda. Case in point would be the the movie "Showdown in Vietnam", shown as a war propaganda by Universal Newsreel.
