I'm assuming [tex]|AB|[/tex] is the length of the line segment connecting the two points.

[tex]|AB|=\sqrt{(-4-0)^2+(-3-(-4))^2}=\sqrt{4^2+1^2}=\sqrt{16+1}=\sqrt{17}[/tex]
