To start, you have to figure out how much you are paying after the 40% discount is applied. 

65 - 40% =
65 - (65 x .40) =
65 - 26 = 39

Then you add the 5% sales tax.

39 + 5% =
39 + (39 x .05) =
39 + 1.95 = 40.95

The final price is $40.95
