It was announced that the major portion of the Gurdaspur district had been awarded to India instead of Pakistan, with only Cheema being left for Pakistan. The major part of the Gurdaspur district was handed over to India giving India practical access to Kashmir.

Not only were the Pakistanis given less land, but they were also given less access to Kashmir, an area that has many resources, like uranium, gold, oil, and natural gas.
