Begin by adding x to both sides:

-x + x - 3 = 2x + x - 6

-3 = 3x - 6

Add 6 to both sides:

-3 + 6 = 3x - 6 + 6

3 = 3x

Divide both sides by 3:

3/3 = 3x/3

x = 1.
