Answer:

According the the Property of Equality (POE), if a=b and b=c, then a=c.

If -8y + 8 = x and x = -2y + 2, substitute so that it becomes -8y + 8 = -2y + 2.

Solve from there:

Move the y variables to their own side.

-8y + 2y = 2-8

-6y = -6

y = -6

Then plug the y into either equation to find x.

x = -2y + 2

x = -2(-6) + 2

x = 12 + 2

x = 14
