5x + 4y = 2
-5x - 2y = 4

So if we add both the equations 5x will be eliminated.

5x + 4y - 5x - 2y = 4 + 2
4y - 2y = 6
2y = 6
y = 3

As y is 3

x will be
5x + 4 x 3 = 2
5x + 12 = 2
5x = -10
x = -2
