Given problem:

 What is 9*5;

 The formula P*Q  = P x Q  - 7;

To  find 9*5, simply make P = 9 and Q = 5

Input into the equation and solve;

   P*Q  = P x Q  - 7    =   9 x 5 - 7

                                 = 45 - 7

                                 = 38

The solution to this problem is 38.
