Work Shown:

1/5 = 3/15 after multiplying top and bottom by 3

1/5 + 3/15 = 3/15 + 3/15 = (3+3)/15 = 6/15

Reduce that result to get

6/15 = (2*3)/(5*3) = 2/5

So 6/15 reduces to 2/5

Overall,

1/5 + 3/15 = 2/5
