The mid Atlantic rift is in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean where 2 plates diverge. That means that the 2 plates are moving away from each other, and the mantles lava is filling the gap between the two plates. The newest land is located closest to the ridge, and the oldest land is located farther away from the ridge.
