By Roosevelt and Taft both running it cost for the Democrats to split and have to decide between one, this meant that their votes were evenly split. While on the other side the candidates those were not split giving them an advantage, And winning them the most votes. So by Roosevelt running he lost the campaign for his party, And gave it to the other party practically
