Within the concentration camp, Wiesel sees a sign that says “Work brings freedom”. The irony of this message was that in the concentration camp there was no freedom even if you worked hard. Either you work or you were sent straight to the furnace. In simple terms they had NO choice at all - therefore there was NO FREEDOM.
