Tea was a representation of freedom. It was something that was drunk often by the colonists, but Britain taxed it solely to tax it. the Boston Tea Party was when they dumped tons of tea into the harbor as an act of rebellion, which had a massive effect between Britain and the colonies. It became tense, and Britain stopped all trade going in or out until the tea that was dumped into the harbor was repaid for. That is one instance as of why it was an important part.
