Genetic code may be defined as the triplet code of the nucleotides that can be inherited from one generation to another. The triplet codon codes for the particular amino acid and involves in protein gene expression.

Redundancy in the genetic code may be defined by which the single amino acid is coded by more than codons. These codons are non as synonymous codons. For example: phenylalanine is coded by UUC and UUU.
