In an electrolytic cell the electrode where oxidation takes place is the anode while where reduction takes place is the cathode. Oxidation is the loss of electron(s) while reduction is the gain of electron(s).

Therefore the correct answer  is The cathode is the negative electrode while anode is the positive electrode.
