12 * 49 = 12 * (50 - 1)

so if I know that (12 x 5 = 60) ⇒ (12 x 50 = 600),

then I can subtract 12 from 600 to figure out 12 * 49.

So, 12 * 49 is 600 - 12 = 588

Wow! This is so easy, I don't even need a calculator!
