Divide both sides by 2

3x + 1 = 11/2

Subtract 1 from both sides

3x = 11/2 - 1

Simplify 11/2 - 1 to 9/2

3x = 9/2

Divide both sides by 3

x = 9/2/3

Simplify 9/2/3 to 9/2 × 3

x = 9/2 × 3

Simplify 2 × 3 to 6

x = 9/6

Simplify 9/6 to 3/2

x = 3/2
