To solve: 9 + 2 + 42 × 5 − 1

=9+2+(42×5)-1

=9+2-1+(42×5)

=10+210

=220

To solve: (9 + 2) + 42 × (5 − 1)

=11+(42×4)

=179

One of the thing we should note is that multiplication always comes first, or we might get the wrong answer.

9 + 2 + 45 x 5 - 1 = 220.

(9 + 2) + 42 x (5 - 1) =  is 220.
