Remember that the area of a triangle is defined by the formula:

[tex]A = \dfrac{1}{2}b h[/tex]

([tex]b[/tex] is the length of the base of the triangle and [tex]h[/tex] is the length of its height)


Substituting in the information the problem supplied us with, we find:

[tex]58.6 = \dfrac{1}{2}b (9)[/tex]

[tex]117.2 = 9b[/tex]

[tex]b \approx 13.02[/tex]


The length of the base of the triangle is approximately 13.02 inches.
