To find any common denominator, write down all the prime factors and pick out what you need to make an LCD.

2x^2 = 2 * x * x

Your LCM is
one 2
two xs.
LCM = 2*x*x
LCM = 2x^2

The Least Common Multiple (LCM) of the numbers:
4/x, -4/2x^2  is  - 4, Because,  - 4 is the smallest number that all of the numbers divide into evenly.
