A form of matter that waves move through is called a medium.

Explanation: Waves form with vibrations. A water wave is a vibration in a liquid. A sound wave is whenever there is vibration in a gas. (air) These mechanical waves travel through a medium, causing them to collide with each other, and they transfer energy from one to another.
