Nitrogen is not necessary for photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants convert solar energy into chemical energy and making their own food in the process. The raw materials necessary for photosynthesis include water, sunlight, carbon dioxide, chlorophyll and nutrients from the soil.
